Arrival

How the Luton pickup works

Luton has a single terminal. Once you've cleared passport control and collected your bags, your chauffeur will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name board, ready to walk you to the car.

Luton is a busy base for early-morning and late-night European flights. We track every flight, so if you land at 6am or after midnight the chauffeur is already there. You get 60 minutes of free waiting.

The journey

From Luton to Cambridge

Distance

about 42 miles

Typical drive

55 to 75 minutes

Main roads

A505, A1(M) and A505 / A428

The drive is about 42 miles and usually takes 55 to 75 minutes. The route runs east from the airport towards the A1(M), then across country to Cambridge on the A505 or A428, avoiding London completely.

We drop off across Cambridge and the surrounding area: the city centre and colleges, the Science Park and Cambridge North, the Biomedical Campus and the villages to the west of the city such as Cambourne and Bar Hill.

Why not the train?

There's no direct rail link from Luton Airport to Cambridge. The usual route is the shuttle to Luton Airport Parkway, Thameslink south into London, a change at St Pancras or Finsbury Park, then a train north to Cambridge. That's two to two and a half hours with at least two changes.

Going by car cuts the journey roughly in half and avoids London altogether. That's why so many Cambridge business travellers flying from Luton book a chauffeur both ways.
